Jackie’s birthday is on March 17. What will I get her? Well, first let me fill you all in on who Jackie is.
I met Jackie nearly two years ago when I first moved to Texas. The move to Texas was a big step with immediate implications, and it seems that meeting her has turned into a big step with long-term implications.
I met her on AOL in the Writers Jam. I can’t pinpoint the exact date I fell in love with her… I think I’m still falling for her. She lives in California. I live in Texas. Anyone have a problem with that?
We told each other we’d never say, “I Love You” online. We’ve both heard the stories of failed online relationships and didn’t want ours to become a casualty. But after a serious lull in communication that only a bouquet of flowers delivered to her door solved, we’ve finally started saying those words.
I know. Everyone says there can’t be true love on the Internet. And there are a variety of arguments given against our one (but ultimately damning) piece of contrary evidence — we do love each other. I’ve been through all the arguments. But I still feel the same way. Love isn’t linear.
We’ll meet for the first time in two weeks. When I go over there during Spring Break. I’ll be there for her nineteenth birthday. What should I get her? I mean, I’ll be there, but I can’t say, “I am your present.” That’s way too cliché. I need ideas. And, you, my loving audience, have them.
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind…
