FAYETTEVILLE, Tennessee (AP) — A high school senior shot and killed another student in the school parking lot Tuesday, three days before they were to graduate, apparently because they had argued about a girl.

The shooting happened at about 2 p.m. in a parking lot at Lincoln County High School.

Jacob Davis, 18, was armed with a rifle when he got out of his car and confronted Robert “Nick” Creson, 18, Fayetteville Police Chief Tom Barnes said. Davis was 15 to 20 feet away from Creson when he fired the first shot, but it’s unclear whether it struck Creson.

“Nick told him, `Quit messing around,”‘ Barnes said. “The second shot hit him somewhere in the chest and he fell backwards and there was another shot fired into Nick as he was on the ground.”

Creson died about 15 minutes after being brought to Lincoln Regional Hospital.

After the shooting, Davis put the gun on the ground, sat down next to it and put his head in his hands, Barnes said. He stayed that way until police arrived, then surrendered without incident.

About 10 to 15 students were nearby and witnessed the shooting.

Argument over a girl both had dated
Police said the boys apparently had been arguing over a girl both had dated.

Principal Jim Stewart said Creson was a football player and Davis was among the top 25 students in the 307-member senior class. Neither was troublesome, he said.

“If they had ever been disciplined for anything, I’m not aware of it,” Stewart said.

Stewart had few details on what led to the shooting. The boys apparently had argued earlier in the day, probably over a girl, he said.

Sophomore Ronald Scott said Davis kept to himself.

“He didn’t hardly ever even talk,” Scott said. “But I guess that’s the ones that will get you — the quiet ones.”

Fayetteville is about 70 miles south of Nashville near the Alabama border.

Okay, now here’s the thing. This fucking sophomore says Davis always kept to himself. He ends by saying, “But I guess that’s the ones that will get you — the quiet ones.” What the hell is this!? Where does he get his information? Do you know how many people I’ve heard say this? Say this directed at me!? It’s such a fucking cliche, and I can’t believe CNN would waste the space to print that. Now you know CNN and other agents of the media are only in it for the sensational stories. This is such fucking bullshit… “The quiet ones …” What the hell!? Everyone says that! CNN and the rest, STOP WASTING THE AMERICAN PUBLIC’S TIME WITH THESE STUPID QUOTES MADE BY IDIOT STUDENTS!
